Breathe in quietly through your nose for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, then exhale slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds. Repeat 3–4 times. This activates your body's relaxation response and can noticeably calm you within a couple of minutes.
When anxious thoughts spiral, name: 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, and 1 you can taste. This pulls your attention back to the present moment and out of the spiral.
