Symptoms

Very high body temperature, confusion, rapid pulse, hot dry or flushed skin, sometimes loss of consciousness.

Cause

Prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity, often during physical exertion outdoors without enough hydration.

Prevention

Stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity in peak heat, wear light clothing, take breaks in shade/cool areas.

Treatment

Move to a cool place immediately, remove excess clothing, cool the body with wet cloths/fan, sip fluids if conscious. Commonly used medicines: no drug treatment — rapid cooling and IV fluids are the priority.
