Puncture marks, pain and swelling at the site, sometimes nausea, breathing difficulty, or bleeding (venomous bites).

Cause

Bite from a venomous or non-venomous snake, usually accidental contact outdoors.

Prevention

Wear closed shoes outdoors at night, use a torch while walking in grass/fields, avoid handling snakes.

Treatment

Keep the person calm and still, immobilize the limb below heart level, get to a hospital immediately for antivenom if needed. Do not cut, suck, or apply a tight tourniquet.
